Summer is here! But with the pandemic, it may to look very different. With travel restrictions still in place, why not take this opportunity to explore your own backyard? Westshore has some great summer spots within minutes of Royal Bay that we’re sure you will enjoy.
Here are just some of our favourites:
The New Colwood Creek Park Spray n Play
We’re so excited for this one! Absolutely perfect for some family fun, the new Spray n Play area in Colwood Creek is finally open. All you need to do is step on the button in the centre of the park for some cooling sprays of water from three jets in the base and a shower from the overhead leaf!
Royal Roads University at Hatley Park National Historic Site
A majestic sight, Hatley Castle is truly a scene to behold during the summer season. The magnificent architecture against the backdrop of sunshine and blue skies is incomparable. Just make sure you take your camera along.
This site also features vast forest with lots of world-class gardens, and trails for hiking and walking.
The campus is closed to traffic. Visitors must park in the parking lot near the main entrance to the university.
This is a “go-to” spot, and we’re sure you will love it as much as we do! Just remember – if you plan to feed the ducks, please use a natural bird seed mix. Also, make sure you look towards the skies every now and then – you just may spot a Belted Kingfisher.
Albert Head beach
Perfect for a quiet family picnic, this cobble beach is a great spot for some magnificent views of the Victoria and the distant Olympic Mountains in Washington State. The beach also features a lagoon that attracts many varieties of migrating birds like geese, swans, and more, making it great for birdwatching.
Witty’s Lagoon Park
With an amazing sandy beach overlooking rocky headlands and offshore islets, this seashore park is an ideal destination for the whole family.
Tower Point is our favourite part of Witty’s Lagoon Regional Park. Located east of the main park, Tower Point offers many scenic coastal views along the shores of the Strait of Juan de Fuca – which we’re sure you will enjoy!
Latoria Creek Park
This beautiful forest – complete, with a creek babbling along beside the trail – makes it a tranquil spot for some yoga. If you’re in the mood to explore and wander instead, Latoria Creek Park also features many well-groomed trails with several bridges crossing the creek and sections of wooden stairs.
So many amazing things to do at Goldstream Park. You’ll find four waterfalls, two rail trestles, a train tunnel and a couple of old mine entrances…if you know where to look. For the animal lovers, there are birds, beavers, bears, owls… and more!
Hike along the trails and take in the panoramic views. Enjoy a picnic with family and friends on the beach. Or go for a swim to cool off this summer. So many options at Thetis Lake!
